Multiple Tourists from Durgapur Missing After Nepal Disaster, Families Worried

Following the devastating natural disaster in Nepal, several tourists from Durgapur, West Bengal, have gone missing, leaving their families deeply concerned. According to the latest reports, around 400 people are still untraceable in Nepal, including many Indian tourists. Several residents from West Bengal are also among those who have lost contact after the disaster.

It has been learnt that Durgapur residents Mousumi Gangopadhyay (53) and her husband Arindam Gangopadhyay, residents of Tapovan City in Bamunara, had travelled to Nepal for a Mansarovar pilgrimage tour. The couple started their journey on the 21st of this month with a travel organisation and was scheduled to return home after completing the trip. However, their family members lost all contact with them after news of the severe disaster in Nepal emerged.

Unable to reach them over the phone, their family members became extremely anxious. Concern spread among relatives and neighbours as no one knows their current location or whether they are safe. The family and local residents are praying for their safe return.

Meanwhile, Mousumi and Arindam are not the only tourists from Durgapur who remain untraceable. Reports suggest that Debashis Bandyopadhyay (62) and his wife Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay (59), residents of Ambuja Township in Durgapur, have also lost contact with their families. They were also reportedly in Nepal when the disaster struck.

Apart from them, communication with Subhash Chandra Ghosh (61), a resident of Srinagar Palli in Durgapur, has also remained disrupted since the disaster. With several such incidents coming to light, anxiety has increased across Durgapur. Families and neighbours are waiting for reliable information from the authorities.

A local resident said that no confirmed information has been received so far. Several attempts have been made to contact them through phone calls and WhatsApp messages, but no response has come. The resident expressed hope that they may be stranded somewhere and are safe. Police officials also visited the area to assess the situation, but no confirmed information about their whereabouts is available yet.

Due to severe flash floods, landslides, and disruption of communication networks in Nepal, it has become difficult to contact people stranded in affected areas. Mobile networks and other communication services have been disrupted in many regions, creating a gap of information between tourists and their worried families.
